It's a new year and it's time to reboot Jay's Weekly Stack. That's right -- I'm back for no reason. So, where to start? I am reviewing comics---okay let's do this.
This week was the quote-unquote "end" of Marvel's SECRET WARS. Now honestly -- how is it a secret that the entire Marvel universe is in chaos? Tell me -- how is it a freakin' secret? And for that matter, how is it a war?
A war is a state of armed conflict between different nations or states or different groups within a nation or state. None of this happened. And I shit you not -- after nine issues, it just stops. IT JUST STOPS on a g**damn dime. Marvel, not the best stroke. But who am I to judge? I'll see you guys at Civil War 2. I'm sure that's going to be great...sightly sarcastic. MARV -- I still love ya with all my heart.
Okay, on with the review. Kind of a small week.
First out is "Back to the Future 4." IDW does great commercial comic work, but this book is a bit of a misfire. Its an anthology, and none of the stories are all that compelling. It's just okay.
2 out of 5.
Next, anyone ever play with action figures as a kid and think, what if the Ninja Turtles teamed up with Batman? No? Me neither. Batman with Batman, and TMNTs with TMNTs. Well, now it's a comic and it's actually kinda fun. The art is better than it needs to be. The story is your stander crossover affair. Not great, not poor, just okay.
A fun 2 out 5,
if you have an extra 3 bucks.
Now, "Birthright"...this has been one of my favorite books of the last year and the story continues to f**k the standard fantasy tropes. Totally a must-read.
4 out of 5...
very, very strong. SO, it's my pick of the week.
Descender...I don't know how to review this book. It's like Philip K. Dick mixed with Megaman. AI mixed with Johnny Quest. I can't talk about it or I might ruin the plot. Please, just pick this book up and read it. It is truly amazing.
Well that's about it. That's whats good out there this week. Come back next week 'cause I'M going to do something kinda different at Jay's Weekly Stack.
